A quiet Bed and Breakfast on
a forested ridge overlooking Minnesota's
North Shore of Lake Superior 1000 feet below.
Vast system of hiking, mountain bike
and cross country ski trails connect to B and B.
Pincushion Bed and Breakfast is a secluded retreat, enjoyed by hikers, cross-country skiers, mountain bikers and people who simply need a quiet restful home away from home. Right off the Gunflint Trail, Pincushion is only 3 miles from Grand Marais, Minnesota's renowned harbor, restaurants, shops, galleries and new center for performing arts. We are also only 24 miles from BWCA canoe entry points. Open all seasons of the year, the B&B is surrounded by forest of birch, aspen, pine and maple on 43 private acres.
The B&B sits high on the quiet Sawtooth Mountain ridgeline, 1,000 feet above Lake Superior's scenic North Shore. You will enjoy a magnificent overlook of Lake Superior, the Devil Track River Valley and forest of aspen, pine and birch. For a quiet romantic escape, a few days exploring the many miles of trails, or a little of both, the dense birch / aspen forest and spectacular views provide the perfect backdrop.

The special touches make the Pincushion Bed & Breakfast a uniquely intimate getaway. As the areas longest operating B&B (since 1986), Pincushion Bed & Breakfast has four cozy guest rooms each with private bathroom and decorated with thick bed comforters, balloon curtains and wood paneling and local art.
Owners Scott and Mary Beattie are long time devotees of bed and breakfasts. "We enjoy sharing the B&B with guests and we are both real outdoors lovers," says Scott. "We want to make each guest feel as comfortable as if they were visiting a favorite friend or relative."
Every morning at Pincushion begins with a hearty, freshly cooked breakfast. Some typical day starters may include: Chilled fruit soup, banana stuffed french toast, and turkey sausage; or possibly a fruit sundae, wild-rice vegetable frittata, and homemade muffins. We have many delicious entrees and if you stay several days you can sample many!
After a day on the trails, the spacious beamed living/dining room (pictured -- main common area) with its fireplace is a great place to relax and look over the many outdoor books or locally produced "coffee table" art books. To completly relax guests may also reserve private time in the relaxing sauna in the lower level.
Trailside Location on the
Pincushion Mountain Trail and Superior Hiking Trail
Hikers, skiers, bikers, fall color lookers and peace and quiet seekers. Pincushion is close enough for a few day getaway, and peaceful enough to feel like a real vacation. Owners Scott and Mary Beattie look forward to hosting guests throughout the four seasons of the year.
Natural attractions and activities abound here. In summer, hiking and mountain biking are favorites. The Pincushion Mountain Trail is maintained year 'round to the B&B's doorstep, with direct connection to the Superior Hiking Trail. We are a 2 mile hike from Minnesota's deepest gorge- the Devil Track River Canyon. We often host long distance hikers off the Superior Hiking Trail and Lodge to Lodge hikers. Hiking options from the property can be shorter day walks including deep forest hikes and panoramic views of Lake Superior. For canoeists, BWCA entry points are just a 20-minute drive. We will be happy to assist you in planning hiking, biking, canoeing and ski outings. Just ask -- We've probably been there! Other activities include attending our local folk school, taking an art class, fall color touring, photography, star gazing, shopping, dining, and community theater.
In winter the 25 km. of Pisten Bully groomed and tracked cross country ski trails here turn the B&B into a haven for skiers of all levels. Plus, an additional 300 km. of ski trails are within 30 minutes drive. |
